Gastric bypass surgery is a procedure where in a stomach is separated into a smaller pouch and a lower pouch that is connected in a small intestine that is rearranged. Now gastric bypass surgery is considered a gold standard for losing weight surgery because it’s the most common and has the most success rate and higher prognosis.

The effect of this surgery will make a patient feel full already even with little or minimal food intake. This is because of the bypass, bypassing some parts of the intestine that absorbs the food and malabsorption occurs.

Disadvantages:

  • A complex complication and in general has a potential to have a greater complication.

  • Will require long term dietary supplementation (for strict compliance) because of protein, calorie, vitamins and mineral deficiency.
